A reminder about M2M LAB BLOGS

By now you should be well aware that after each M2M lab you need to complete a quick blog that includes 3 things:
  • What you did during your lab time
  • How the activity ties into the key point for the lab
  • In what ways this activity might prepare you for our actual Mission to Mars in March
BIG REMINDER!
You must have a blog for every lab - EVEN IF YOU ARE ABSENT. In fact, it is even more important to do a blog if you missed the lab. Remember, each lab feeds into a mini-culmination so if you are absent you should check with your partners from the day and get information about what you missed. It's okay to say in your blog that you were absent and say what others did and what skills you may need to practice, but you MUST complete a blog still.

Upcoming Motion Test

Ladies,
As we discussed last week, we'll be having Part I of our Newton's Laws/Motion/Gravity Test this coming Friday, November 2. You already have your review sheets (copied on yellow paper and hopefully living in your binder) in order to study. You can plan for a review activity on Wednesday in class, but Thursday we'll be starting new information, so plan your studying wisely.

If you've misplaced your review sheet, you can view it on my website. (Linked from this page over on the side.)

Details about posting your science commercials

We've been having a little trouble posting via YouTube, so I would like you to post your commercials through blogger directly. Check out these instructions:

In iMovie:
  1. Share - Export Movie
  2. Choose "mobile" or "medium" quality
  3. (If it asks you where to save, select "Movies" folder)
Then open your blog,
  1. Create a new post
  2. Click on the video button in the tool bar
  3. Browse for your movie (it should be in the Movies folder) and "open" it
  4. Add a title, if you desire
  5. Upload your movie
  6. Once it is uploaded, publish your post. You can type in the same blog entry, if you wish.

Science Commercials

What makes a good commercial?
They're informative, eye catching, short and to the point. Sometimes they are surprising, or funny. Most of all, they're memorable.

Your mission is to create a series of commercials about Newton's Laws and the Universal Law of Gravitation. Each commercial must meet the following requirements:
  • between 30 and 45 seconds in length
  • be created in iMovie and eventually hosted on your blog
  • have a title slide including your FIRST name and your law
  • use at least one transition
  • include a narration
  • utilize a prop, either through video capture or imported from the web (ie still image or video clip)
  • include credits, where appropriate
Before you start creating your commercial on iMovie, you must complete a storyboard (like an outline). You might consider using Comic Life to do this. We will have a couple of class days to work on our commercials. Today you should focus on getting your storyboards!

Motion Detector Lab

Ladies!
Today you'll have the opportunity to record your motion and see it graphed in order to analyze your position, speed and acceleration. Once you have finished this lab, please create a blog posting about what you learned. Some suggestions to get you started:
  • Can you find a way to connect the axes of the motion detector graphs to the equations we used for calculations Thursday?
  • Can you have zero acceleration, but a positive velocity? How?
  • For a person walking away from the motion detector, how might the position and velocity graphs look either the same or different?
  • Why do you think some of the graphs were so messy/jagged/bouncy?
  • Under what circumstances would you have a graph with a positive slope versus a negative slope?
Remember, these are just some suggestions. You can write about whatever you want that is pertinent to the motion lab you completed. This should be a reflection about what you learned. You may be able to finish this at the end of class, but if not please complete your post by the end of the day on Monday. Remember to label this post "science".
